TAGUIG CITY — The City of Taguig opened its 52nd Nutrition Month celebration on July 6, 2026, urging residents to embrace healthier eating while protecting the environment. Anchored on the national sub‑theme “Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan,” the local campaign connects food security directly to the stewardship of natural resources.
Mass Screening Maps Childhood Nutrition
The City Nutrition Office reported that Operation Timbang Plus assessed 114,746 children aged zero to 59 months between January and March. The early‑year sweep identifies underweight and stunted children before irreversible developmental delays set in, allowing health workers to target interventions precisely.
The data gathered forms the baseline for Taguig’s nutrition action plan throughout the year. By screening over a hundred thousand young children, the city ensures that no malnourished child slips through the cracks unnoticed.
Love Caravan Delivers Seeds and Nutrition Education
Through the Taguig Love Caravan, 3,750 families received nutrition bags containing cooking ingredients and free vegetable seeds. Each distribution was paired with urban gardening lectures, teaching residents how to grow nutritious food in small spaces.
The initiative directly ties environmental action to household nutrition. City Nutrition Action Officer Julie S. Bernabe emphasized that planting vegetables and fruits at home is a simple yet powerful way to care for both personal health and the planet.
Targeted Support Reaches Mothers and Infants
A total of 2,105 nutritionally at‑risk pregnant and lactating women received 90‑day food packs designed to meet their heightened dietary needs. The packs aim to prevent low birth weight and ensure adequate breastmilk quality during the critical first months.
The Dietary Supplementation Program separately benefited 1,650 children through feeding kits and balanced Go, Grow, and Glow food packs. Newborns were not overlooked, with 419 receiving the city’s 3‑in‑1 Taguig Baby Bag containing essential early care items.
Award‑Winning Campaigns Earn Regional Recognition
Taguig’s nutrition initiatives have drawn accolades beyond city limits. The local nutrition committee captured the championship in the Nutri‑Duo Cooking Vlog Contest and placed first runner‑up for Best Local Nutrition Committee Social Media Account in the Digital Reach Award.
Individual honors went to Bernabe as a 2024 Regional Outstanding City Nutrition Action Officer contender and to Barangay Nutrition Scholar Jessabel Densing. The city also received a certificate of appreciation for active participation in the 2025 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Plan Implementation.
Leaders Frame Health as Daily Responsibility
Bernabe reminded residents that caring for the environment begins with everyday actions like planting, meal planning, buying local produce, and responsible waste disposal. She called for collective commitment to achieve sufficient nutrition for all.
Mayor Lani Cayetano urged residents to treat the body as a temple, making conscious food choices that prevent illness and lengthen lifespans. She noted that good nutrition serves as the foundation of good health, sparing families from heavy medical expenses.
