Lufthansa Technik Philippines is building a massive new aircraft maintenance facility at Clark International Airport, representing a multi-million-dollar investment that will create approximately 1,200 highly skilled jobs for Filipino aviation professionals when operations begin in 2028.
A Multi-Million-Dollar Investment in Clark's Future
The announcement of Lufthansa Technik Philippines' expansion at Clark International Airport marks a significant milestone for the province's economic development. The project was formalized through a lease agreement signed during the state visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, witnessed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace. The new facility will occupy a 157,000-square-meter site and have the capacity to accommodate up to nine widebody aircraft bays, making it a substantial addition to the country's aviation infrastructure. Lufthansa Technik CEO Soeren Stark emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, noting that the Asia-Pacific region is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world and that the Philippines is central to the company's growth strategy in the region.
Creating Quality Jobs for Kapampangan Professionals
Beyond the impressive infrastructure, the project's most significant impact lies in its promise of quality employment for the local workforce. The facility is expected to generate around 1,200 highly skilled jobs, including positions for engineers, aircraft technicians, aviation specialists, logistics providers, and suppliers. This job creation aligns with the Marcos administration's efforts to attract strategic foreign investments and create quality employment opportunities for Filipinos. Finance Secretary Frederick Go highlighted that the project will enhance local capabilities, promote technology transfer, and deepen the country's participation in global aviation and supply chains. Lufthansa Technik Philippines currently specializes in the maintenance of Airbus A330, A340, A350, and A380 aircraft, as well as Boeing 777 models, and the Clark facility will expand its portfolio to include the Boeing 787.
Strengthening Clark's Position as an Aviation Hub
The new facility will complement Lufthansa Technik Philippines' long-standing operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, where the company has maintained a presence for more than 25 years. Together, both locations will form a powerful hub for widebody aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), reinforcing the country's position in the Asia-Pacific region. BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang noted that the project reinforces Clark's emergence as a premier destination for globally competitive industries and aviation-related investments. The development is also expected to attract complementary investments in aerospace, logistics, manufacturing, and related industries, creating a robust ecosystem of economic opportunities for Kapampangans and the broader Central Luzon community.
