Davao — In a significant move to boost agricultural productivity, the Department of Agrarian Reform in the Davao Region (DAR-11) has officially condoned over PHP 509 million in unpaid land amortizations. This initiative, part of the New Agrarian Emancipation Act, benefitted more than 8,500 farmers across Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental. The turnover, held during a stakeholder forum on June 3, 2026, provided beneficiaries with their long-awaited land titles and certificates of release from mortgages. By clearing this massive financial burden, the government hopes to provide farmers with a fresh start to focus on their harvest and livelihood.
A Fresh Start for Rural Communities
The program’s core objective is to deliver direct, responsive government services that translate into tangible economic stability for farming families. By removing the weight of accumulated interest and surcharges, the government is enabling these farmers to invest more effectively in their own land. During the ceremony, the distribution of farm machinery further signaled a commitment to modernizing local agriculture and increasing output. This financial relief acts as a crucial catalyst for growth in the region’s agricultural heartlands.
Empowerment Through Land Ownership
The issuance of 132 electronic land titles (e-Titles) and thousands of certificates marks a transformative moment for thousands of agrarian reform beneficiaries. These legal documents grant farmers full security over the lands they have been tilling for years, protecting them from future legal or financial uncertainty. Regional Director Joseph Orilla highlighted that this effort is designed to accelerate productivity by removing systemic barriers that previously hindered farmers' progress. This formalization of property rights is a vital step toward sustainable rural development.
Sustaining Regional Economic Growth
This initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the region’s food security and economic prosperity. As farmers gain full control over their production and resources, the agricultural output of the Davao region is projected to strengthen. The government's continued focus on providing machinery and technical support alongside debt relief ensures that the beneficiaries have the tools needed to succeed. This holistic approach to supporting the agricultural sector is a clear signal of the province’s dedication to its hardworking farmers.
