CEBU CITY — The Tower Garden at SM Seaside City Cebu was transformed into a vibrant celebration of love and identity yesterday, June 6, 2026, as the Gugmahan 2026 Pride event kicked off. Organized by NormaliSTAR in partnership with SM Seaside Cebu, SM Cares, and Loveyourself Cebu, the gathering drew a large, diverse crowd of LGBTQIA+ community members, allies, and supporters for an afternoon and evening of colorful fellowship. The event was part of the city’s broader Pride Month celebrations.
The celebration, aptly named “Gugmahan”—the Cebuano word for love—went beyond a traditional parade. It embraced the theme of a “Queermunnity,” welcoming everyone to take part in a unique blend of active lifestyle, health advocacy, and pure entertainment. The day’s lineup was designed to offer both high‑energy spectacle and meaningful opportunities for connection, making it a standout event in Cebu’s cultural calendar.

A Day of Pride on Wheels and on Foot
The festivities began with a signature sunset bike ride, where dozens of cyclists, many decked in rainbow colors, pedaled in unity to promote visibility and a healthy lifestyle. This active start set an energetic tone before the crowd gathered for the pride march, a vibrant procession of color, costumes, and solidarity that wound its way around the SM Seaside complex. The march served as a powerful, moving display of the community’s strength and pride.
As the sun set, the energy shifted to the Tower Garden for the evening celebration. The main stage came alive with spectacular drag performances that dazzled the audience, featuring both established and up‑and‑coming local queens. The show provided not just entertainment but a platform for artistic expression that is central to the LGBTQIA+ community. Cheers and applause filled the air, creating an atmosphere of pure joy and acceptance.
Beyond the Spotlight: Health and Heartfelt Connections
Beyond the performances, Gugmahan 2026 placed a strong emphasis on community health and well‑being. Loveyourself Cebu set up a booth offering free, confidential HIV/AIDS testing and screening, providing a vital and accessible service. This initiative underscored the event's commitment to holistic care, ensuring that the celebration also promoted responsibility and health awareness within the community.
The event also fostered personal connections in creative ways. A designated family picnic area allowed for relaxed, casual gatherings, while a novel blind‑date activity encouraged single attendees to meet new people in a fun, safe environment. These features ensured that Gugmahan was not just a spectacle to watch, but a living, breathing community gathering where old friends reunited and new relationships were formed, all under the banner of love and acceptance.
