BISLIG CITY, SURIGAO DEL SUR — Known as the "Little Niagara of the Philippines," Tinuy‑an Falls is one of Mindanao's most spectacular natural wonders. Spanning 95 meters wide and cascading 55 meters through three main tiers (with a fourth, less accessible tier often cited by locals), it is widely considered the widest waterfall in the Philippines. Located in Barangay Borboanan, about an hour's drive from the commercial center of Mangagoy, this multi‑tiered waterfall draws travelers seeking nature‑based experiences away from crowded tourist hubs.

A Morning Spectacle of Rainbows and Mist

The best time to experience Tinuy‑an Falls is in the morning, particularly between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. During these hours, the morning sunlight interacts with the thick mist rising from the cascading water, creating spectacular rainbows that stretch across the main tier of the waterfall. The falls are generally open from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, though visitors are advised to confirm current hours with local tourism offices before traveling.

Activities and Experiences for Visitors

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities at Tinuy‑an Falls. Swimming in the clear, natural pools at the base of the falls is a popular choice, offering a refreshing escape from the tropical heat. Adventurous guests can rent bamboo rafts to get closer to the cascading torrents for a natural "water massage". The area is also suitable for birdwatching, as some species are endemic to the region. Those who wish to explore the upper levels of the falls should wear rubberized or anti‑slip footwear, as the steps can become quite slippery as they climb higher.

Practical Information for Your Visit

The entrance fee to Tinuy‑an Falls is PHP50 per person. Bamboo raft rental starts at PHP300 for groups of up to seven people, while life vest rental is approximately PHP30 per person. Cottages are available for rent at minimal fees, and parking is accessible with a short walking distance to the falls. Visitors are advised to bring snacks and drinking water, as food options are limited before reaching the site. It is also recommended to withdraw cash in Bislig City proper before heading to the barangay, as there are no ATMs at the falls. The falls are co‑managed by the local tourism office and the Manobo Tribal Council. ( Information such as entrance fees, operating hours, and rental costs are subject to change by the local management and the Manobo Tribal Council. It is recommended to contact the Bislig City Tourism Office directly for the most current updates before planning your trip.)
