A Major Upgrade for Bacolod’s Public Landmarks
BACOLOD - The redevelopment of the Bacolod Public Plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center continues to move forward, with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) targeting project completion by September or October 2026. The P300-million project seeks to revitalize two of Bacolod’s most recognizable public spaces by introducing modern infrastructure while preserving their importance as community gathering places. City officials have closely monitored the project's progress, emphasizing the need to complete the long-awaited improvements that are expected to enhance both tourism and public services. Construction teams have already completed several major components of the redevelopment. At the Bacolod Public Plaza, lighting fixtures have been installed while electrical wiring, control systems, and fountain equipment continue to be completed. Meanwhile, work at the Bacolod City Government Center remains focused on the fountain and pool area, where engineers are addressing minor structural adjustments before final completion. Once operational, the upgraded facilities are expected to provide safer, more attractive, and more functional public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
Enhancing Tourism and Community Spaces
The redevelopment project is designed to improve Bacolod's public infrastructure through enhanced landscaping, energy-efficient lighting systems, upgraded water features, and modern amenities. Approximately PHP80 million of the total budget has been allocated for improvements to the Bacolod Public Plaza, while around PHP220 million is dedicated to the Bacolod City Government Center redevelopment. The upgraded Government Center fountain will feature synchronized lights and music and include a drainage system that allows the area to be converted into an open events venue for concerts, festivals, and community celebrations. Beyond improving aesthetics, the redevelopment aims to create more accessible, family-friendly, and tourism-oriented public spaces that can host civic activities and cultural events. The project also reflects the city's commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports both residents' quality of life and Bacolod's growing reputation as one of the country's leading tourism destinations. Once completed, the revitalized landmarks are expected to become even more attractive destinations for both local visitors and tourists exploring the City of Smiles.
Supporting Bacolod’s Vision for Sustainable Urban Growth
The redevelopment of the Bacolod Public Plaza and Bacolod City Government Center also reflects the city's broader vision of creating vibrant, sustainable, and people-centered urban spaces. Modern public parks and civic centers not only improve the visual appeal of the city but also encourage outdoor recreation, cultural expression, and stronger community engagement. These upgraded landmarks are expected to host more public events, festivals, and tourism-related activities that can stimulate local businesses and generate economic opportunities. As Bacolod continues to grow as a center for commerce, culture, and tourism in Western Visayas, the completion of these redevelopment projects represents another significant milestone in enhancing the city's livability and preserving its role as one of the region's premier destinations.
