Vice Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda, alongside Candaba Mayor Rene Maglanque, officially inspected the newly completed 560-meter concrete irrigation canal in Barangay Sto. Rosario on July 2, 2026. The PHP 3.97 million project, funded by the Provincial Government of Pampanga, provides a more reliable and efficient water source for approximately 100 hectares of agricultural land, reducing irrigation costs and improving farm productivity for local farmers.
Faster Water Flow, Lower Costs for Farmers
The newly completed irrigation canal directly addresses a long-standing need for a more efficient water delivery system. Ener Kabigting, chairman of the Ilog Mae Bao Farmers Association who formally requested the project in 2024, noted that the concrete structure has significantly improved operations for the association's 30 members who collectively cultivate 62 hectares . Farmers previously struggled with water loss and high diesel expenses using the old, unlined canal. Kabigting explained that water now reaches their fields faster, reducing fuel consumption and operational costs, which allows them to plant more efficiently . Vice Governor Pineda emphasized the importance of reliable irrigation, stating it helps farmers save on expenses while making their planting cycles smoother.
A Commitment to Agriculture and Food Security
The inspection on July 2 was attended by Vice Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda, Mayor Rene Maglanque, Vice Mayor Thelma Macapagal, 4th District Board Member Dr. Kaye Naguit, and barangay officials . The project, which cost PHP 3,971,142.58, represents the provincial government's continued prioritization of agriculture under Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda's administration . Recognizing farmers as vital partners in ensuring food security and sustaining Pampanga's economy, the project is part of ongoing efforts to provide necessary infrastructure to the agricultural sector . This initiative is expected to boost local agricultural production and contribute to the economic resilience of the farming communities in Candaba .
