PALAWAN — The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority recently greenlit a major project to construct a state of the art fish port in San Vicente, Palawan. This development is poised to significantly enhance the local fisheries value chain by providing better landing, storage, and handling facilities. By reducing post-harvest losses, the initiative aims to increase the market value of catches for local municipal fisherfolk.
Transforming Infrastructure for Local Coastal Economic Growth
This strategic infrastructure project is expected to benefit more than 2,000 residents directly and over 20,000 individuals indirectly across the region. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. highlighted that such facilities are essential for modernizing the sector and improving returns for producers. With better access to efficient marketing and cold storage, San Vicente is strengthening its position as a vital hub for the province's fishing industry.
Empowering Fisherfolk Through Strategic Investment Initiatives
The construction is particularly significant for fisherfolk operating in the West Philippine Sea, who often face challenges in logistics and supply chain management. By streamlining operations, the government aims to ensure that the wealth of the seas translates into tangible gains for those on the front lines of production. This investment reflects a broader commitment to securing food sources while simultaneously uplifting the living standards of coastal communities in Palawan.
