The Cavite City Mega MedCare Health Center in Barangay 28, Sea Breeze, offers free or highly subsidized family planning services, including the insertion and extraction of progestin subdermal implants, carried out by trained city health professionals.
About the Procedure
The progestin subdermal implant is a small, flexible rod inserted under the skin of the inner upper arm, where it releases progestin to prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years. Cavite has been a pilot site for the national family planning program, with the Department of Health introducing subdermal implants in Cavite's Rural Health Units and health centers between 2014 and 2016. This program trained physicians and nurses on proper insertion and removal techniques.
Implant insertion is done by a trained healthcare provider in a simple outpatient procedure. Removal is equally straightforward—a tiny incision under local anesthesia allows the doctor to slide the rod out using medical forceps. The Mega MedCare Health Center, a 100-bed facility that became fully operational in April 2024, is staffed by trained city health professionals ready to assist with these procedures.
Cost and Coverage
Public facilities like the Mega MedCare Health Center provide implant insertion and removal services for free. Under the Universal Health Care Law, every Filipino is automatically covered by PhilHealth, and in public facilities, the case rate is accepted as full payment for these services.
Private clinics are also covered under PhilHealth's outpatient family planning package, which pays ₱5,850 directly to accredited facilities for subdermal implant insertion, covering the entire procedure including facility and doctor's fees. While public health centers offer truly zero out-of-pocket costs, private providers may charge extra if their fees exceed the PhilHealth coverage.
FPOP Cavite Clinic in nearby Kawit offers additional support and supplies. Remember to bring a valid ID, an updated PhilHealth Member Data Record (if applicable), and any medical records or tracking cards from prior implant insertions.
