Strict Reminders on Prohibited Items
The PRC has reiterated a strict “No Admission / No Entry” policy for examinees who fail to comply with the dress code or who bring prohibited items inside the examination premises. Prohibited items include all electronic gadgets such as cellular phones, smart watches, ear plugs, transmitters, Bluetooth devices, and any other communication or data-storage devices.
Bags of any kind are not allowed, including ladies’ bags, shoulder bags, attaché cases, backpacks, and even transparent bags. Books, notes, review materials, and any printed materials containing formulas or coded data are also banned.
Programmable calculators are strictly prohibited, especially the Casio FX991ES and FX991ES Plus models, as well as the Casio FX-570ES Plus, which has been previously flagged for tampering and modification to transmit and receive data. Only one non-programmable calculator per examinee is allowed, and it must be inspected and reset before the examination.
The PRC has issued an updated list of allowed non-programmable calculators under Commission Resolution No. 1809-2024, published on April 29, 2024. The list includes select models from Casio, Canon, Sharp, Hewlett-Packard, Citizen, Aurora, Olympia, Texas Instruments, and other brands like Karce, Porpo, and Taksun.
Dress Code and Required Items
Examinees are required to wear a specific dress code on examination day. Male examinees must wear a white polo or shirt with a collar, without any seal, logo, or mark, paired with decent slacks or pants. Female examinees must wear a white blouse or shirt with a collar, also without any logo, seal, or mark, and decent skirt or pants.
On examination day, each examinee must bring the following items: the Notice of Admission (NOA); two or more No. 2 pencils; a ballpen with black ink only; one piece of long brown envelope; one piece of long transparent non-colored plastic envelope for keeping valuables and other allowed items; packed snacks, meals, necessary medications, and hygiene kits stored in transparent containers or cellophanes, along with sufficient drinking water for the day; and one allowed non-programmable calculator without its cover.
The PRC has also reminded examinees that no person, including food delivery services, will be allowed to give or distribute food while the examination is in progress. Except for restroom necessities, no examinee may leave the examination room during the conduct of the exam.
Health and Conduct Protocols
Although the COVID-19 public health emergency has been lifted, the PRC encourages examinees to observe good hygiene, frequent handwashing, and proper ventilation, especially in situations where close interaction with vulnerable populations cannot be avoided. Masking is no longer mandatory but is recommended for elderly individuals, those with comorbidities, immunocompromised persons, pregnant women, unvaccinated individuals, and symptomatic persons, particularly in crowded or poorly ventilated public spaces.
The advisory also enforces strict anti-cheating measures as outlined in PRC Memorandum Order No. 57, Series of 2020. Bodily search and inspection of personal belongings will be conducted before the start of the examination and may be repeated at any time thereafter if deemed necessary. The least intrusive means of search will be employed, such as visual inspection, metal detectors, x-ray scanners, or weighing scales for calculators. Should physical contact be necessary, it will be carried out by examination personnel of the same sex.
Muslim female examinees may be required to momentarily remove their face veils (niqab) for verification purposes, and this procedure will be done in seclusion or privately with female personnel. Any prohibited item found will be confiscated, marked for identification, and an incident report will be prepared for submission to the Professional Regulatory Board. No confiscated item will be returned to the examinee until the case has become final and executory.
