SAN DIONISIO, ILOILO — Barangay Pase in the coastal municipality of San Dionisio has a new reason to feel secure. On May 25, 2026, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. turned over a brand‑new emergency vehicle worth ₱1.61 million to the barangay, strengthening the community's capacity to respond swiftly to medical emergencies, disasters, and other urgent situations. The key was handed over in a simple ceremony witnessed by local officials and community members.
Governor Defensor emphasized that the vehicle is an investment in the safety and well‑being of the community. The project was facilitated by the Iloilo Provincial Government in coordination with the Liga ng mga Barangay. For an island‑barangay like Pase, where access to larger hospitals and emergency services can be difficult, the new vehicle is a critical lifeline. It also adds capacity to the barangay's disaster preparedness and allows for the faster transport of patients and essential goods.
Strengthening Rural Emergency Response
The turnover is part of a wider initiative by the Defensor administration to equip barangays with the necessary tools to manage emergencies independently. Across the province, local governments have been receiving patrol vehicles, rescue boats, and medical transport units. These assets are not just hardware but represent a philosophy of preparedness.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias noted that strengthening barangay‑level response capabilities is a priority for the province under the MoRProGRes agenda. The program recognizes that in many situations, the first responders are neighbors and local officials. Giving them the right equipment can mean the difference between life and death. The San Dionisio turnover is expected to be replicated in other barangays as the province continues to assess and address local emergency needs.
