Bohol — If you are looking to trade the bustling tourist crowds of mainstream river cruises for a serene, untouched sanctuary, look no further than Tingkawob River in Barangay Calinguinan Norte, Sevilla, Bohol. As an upstream jewel within the expansive and world-renowned Loboc River network, this hidden gem offers a remarkably quiet and refreshing alternative to the busy waterways downstream. Historically named after the local term for “rapids,” the river is defined by its cooling, gushing currents and breathtaking jade-green waters that invite travelers to slow down and reconnect with nature.

A Sanctuary of Emerald and Green

The true allure of Tingkawob River lies in its ability to remain an unspoiled haven of peace. The riverbanks are entirely enclosed by a dense wall of vibrant tropical flora and towering palm trees, creating a secluded atmosphere that feels miles away from civilization. The crystal-clear waters provide a calming visual contrast to the deep green forest scenery, making it an ideal spot for a quiet picnic or a dip in the cool, refreshing rapids. Visitors can take advantage of the simple riverside cottages available for day rentals, allowing them to linger by the water and fully immerse themselves in the sounds of the forest without the noise of mass-market commercialism.

Navigating to Your Riverside Escape

Reaching this tranquil hideaway is straightforward, making it an excellent addition to any Bohol itinerary. Located approximately 25 kilometers—or about a 45-minute drive—from Tagbilaran City, the river is easily accessible via the Cambagui–Calinguinan Norte road or the Magsaysay road. Once you reach the central district of Sevilla, it is a quick 15-minute drive followed by a gentle 5-minute walk from the village road to reach the riverbanks. Best of all, there is no entrance fee, providing a budget-friendly option for travelers. Before you head back, consider stopping by the nearby Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridge, which is suspended 25 meters over the connected river system and offers both stunning aerial views of the landscape and a chance to explore local souvenir shops.
