Cebu — Healthcare services in Mandaue City are set for a major upgrade following a P50 million financial boost from the Cebu Provincial Government. Announced by Governor Pamela Baricuatro during the city’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, June 29, 2026, the fund is specifically earmarked to equip the Mandaue City Hospital with state-of-the-art medical tools. This significant investment is designed to bridge the gap between having a modern hospital building and providing the high-level care that residents expect, ensuring that the facility is fully operational and capable of meeting urgent community needs.
Equipping the Hospital for Modern Care
The P50 million aid is a strategic injection of resources aimed at purchasing critical diagnostic and life-saving equipment. City Councilor Joel Seno, who chairs the Committee on Appropriation, Budget and Finance, confirmed that the funds will cover a wide range of needs, including emergency room apparatus, operating and delivery room equipment, and laboratory machines. Additionally, the budget will allow for the acquisition of advanced tools like mobile X-ray units, portable ultrasound machines, and specialized rehabilitation equipment. By focusing on these specific technical requirements, the city government aims to transform the hospital into a comprehensive hub that can handle complex medical procedures locally, thereby reducing the need for patients to travel elsewhere for care.
A Shared Commitment to Local Healthcare
This financial support highlights a strengthening partnership between the Mandaue City Government and the Provincial Capitol, with Governor Baricuatro commending the leadership of Mayor Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano for his transparency and commitment to the city's healthcare priorities. For his part, Councilor Seno emphasized that while the city government has been funding the hospital project in phases, this infusion of provincial assistance is a vital catalyst that accelerates the facility’s timeline to full operational capacity. Looking ahead, this collaborative approach is expected to serve as a model for future healthcare initiatives, ensuring that local government units and the province remain aligned in their mission to provide accessible, high-quality medical services to all residents.
