Cebu — The Cebu Provincial Government has officially launched its first-ever digital wallet payment system, marking a significant step toward modernizing provincial services and reducing transaction wait times. Following a directive from Governor Pamela Baricuatro to prioritize digitalization, the new system allows residents and taxpayers to electronically settle a wide range of fees, including real property taxes, transfer taxes, franchise taxes, and various regulatory permits. By integrating financial technology into Capitol operations, the province aims to streamline revenue collection and provide a more convenient, transparent experience for the public.
Expanding Convenience to Provincial Utilities
Beyond tax and regulatory payments, the digitalization initiative extends to essential provincial utility operations, offering a major convenience boost for island and rural residents. Consumers connected to the province-operated generator network on Malapascua Island, as well as those serviced by the inter-LGU waterworks system in Moalboal and Carmen, can now settle their balances directly through the GCash application. This integration, managed by the Provincial Treasurer's Office with strict adherence to "Know Your Customer" protocols, ensures that all financial transactions are securely documented while allowing residents to avoid physical trips to government offices.
How to Utilize the New Digital System
For those looking to utilize this digital upgrade, the process is designed to be user-friendly and accessible directly through the GCash app. Taxpayers can navigate to the Cebu Province billing section, which is categorized into three primary functions: Taxes, Fees, and Penalties; Electricity Bill Payments; and Water Bill Payments. This transition, authorized by a Provincial Board resolution, reflects the Capitol's commitment to improving service delivery through technology. As the province continues to integrate these digital workflows, residents are encouraged to shift toward these electronic methods for faster and more efficient account management.
