MAKATI CITY — In the middle of Makati’s bustling financial district lies a refreshing escape from the city’s fast-paced environment. Ayala Triangle Gardens, a 2-hectare urban park surrounded by towering office buildings, offers a peaceful retreat for tourists, professionals, and families seeking a moment of relaxation amid the metropolis. Long before it became one of Makati’s most beloved public spaces, the site served as Nielson Field, Manila’s pre-World War II airport. Today, the area has been transformed into a lush, landscaped park filled with more than a hundred varieties of trees, including rain trees, golden palms, and fire trees, creating a cool and shaded sanctuary in the heart of the city.

Art and Leisure Along the Winding Paths

Visitors entering Ayala Triangle Gardens are often greeted by an immediate sense of tranquility. The park has become a favorite destination for joggers who make use of its inner perimeter pathways. Running enthusiasts note that a single loop measures roughly 500 to 600 meters, meaning two or more laps are needed to complete a full kilometer. Families with children can enjoy the park’s “Play Forest,” a dedicated recreational area featuring play structures inspired by iconic Philippine wildlife such as the hornbill and carabao. Throughout the gardens, visitors will also discover thoughtfully placed art installations created by renowned Filipino artists. These public artworks enhance the natural surroundings and transform the park into an open-air gallery that blends culture with nature.

A Hub for Food, Festivals, and Fitness

As evening approaches, the atmosphere within the park becomes even more vibrant. The Shops at Ayala Triangle Gardens, home to a variety of restaurants and retail establishments, turn the area into a popular dining destination. Guests can enjoy authentic Mediterranean tapas at Rumba, savor wood-fired pizza at Pizza Studio Tamaki, or relax with a cup of coffee at Common Man Coffee Roasters. For fitness enthusiasts, the park’s spacious paved walkways provide an excellent setting for evening runs and outdoor exercise. The gardens also serve as a venue for numerous community activities and events throughout the year. From open-air concerts and food festivals to the energetic workouts of RevFest and the highly anticipated Mabrewhay Craft Beer Festival, the park continues to be a lively gathering place for residents and visitors alike.

Getting There and Seasonal Highlights

Ayala Triangle Gardens is strategically located at the intersection of Ayala Avenue, Paseo de Roxas, and Makati Avenue. Although the Ayala MRT Station is approximately 1.3 kilometers away, many visitors opt for a short jeepney ride, bus trip, or BGC Bus connection to reach the park more conveniently. Regular bus routes also stop directly outside the gardens, while Buendia MRT Station offers another accessible transport option. The park welcomes visitors daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. One of the most anticipated times to visit is during the Christmas season, when the gardens host the celebrated “Festival of Lights.” Rather than a traditional European-style holiday market, the event presents a dazzling, technology-driven spectacle featuring LED laser displays, projection mapping on surrounding buildings, and a lively soundtrack that blends K-pop, traditional Filipino Christmas songs, and upbeat orchestral music. The result is an immersive and distinctly modern holiday experience that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
