TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — The creative voices of 15 queer Boholano artists are now on vibrant display. The Provincial Government of Bohol, through its Center for Culture and Arts Development, officially opened Pabuhagay Tres: Padayon sa Pag-usbong on June 14, 2026. Held in partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines–Bohol, the exhibition forms part of the province's Pride Month celebration and the Sandugo sa Bohol 2026 festivities. It provides a powerful platform for the LGBTQIA+ community to share their identities through diverse artistic expressions.

The exhibit's theme, "Padayon sa Pag-usbong" or "Continuing to Grow," perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the event. It reflects the ongoing journey of self-discovery and empowerment within the queer community. The artworks on display are not just visual pieces but are profound statements of personal and collective identity. This celebration of diversity adds a rich, contemporary layer to Bohol's already vibrant cultural landscape, inviting visitors to experience the island's progressive and inclusive spirit.

A Growing Platform for Inclusivity

Now in its third year, Pabuhagay has established itself as a significant cultural event. It demonstrates how art can bridge divides and foster a more inclusive society. By providing a prestigious venue and official support, the provincial government sends a clear message that all forms of creative expression and identity are valued. This commitment to diversity makes Bohol a more attractive and welcoming destination for all travelers.

Vice Governor Nick Besas, representing Governor Aris Aumentado, reaffirmed the government's commitment to empowering diverse sectors. He emphasized the importance of providing meaningful platforms for expression and engagement. The event underscores the belief that heritage and culture are living, breathing entities that grow stronger with every voice that is included.

Art as a Reflection of Identity

The exhibition, organized in partnership with the Bohol Pop Contemporary Visual Artists Group, features a diverse range of works. Each piece tells a unique story of the artist's journey, struggles, and triumphs. The medium serves as a universal language that speaks to the shared human experience of seeking belonging and authenticity. It transforms personal narratives into a collective celebration of pride.

For visitors, the exhibit offers a chance to connect with the heart and soul of modern Boholano culture. It moves beyond the traditional images of Chocolate Hills and tarsiers to reveal the island's dynamic and evolving social fabric. The art is a powerful conversation starter, encouraging reflection and fostering empathy among viewers from all walks of life.

A Must-See Destination During Sandugo

The timing of Pabuhagay Tres is perfect for culture enthusiasts. It runs until July 4, 2026, neatly coinciding with the month-long Sandugo sa Bohol Festival. This annual commemoration of the historic blood compact already draws crowds for its street dancing, fairs, and concerts. The addition of a contemporary art exhibition focusing on queer identity provides a refreshing and meaningful counterpoint to the historical festivities.

Tourists planning their Sandugo itinerary can enjoy a more complete cultural experience by visiting the exhibit. It offers a quieter, more introspective activity that balances the high-energy street performances. The venue at the National Museum makes it easily accessible for those already exploring the city's heritage sites. This inclusion enriches the overall festival offering and extends visitor dwell time.
