A Unique Shrine Built Within a Cave
Located in Sitio Basak, Barangay Rizal, Maasin City, Monte Cueva Shrine is one of Southern Leyte’s most recognized religious attractions. Reaching Monte Cueva requires visitors to climb more than 500 steps, with the path featuring the 14 Stations of the Cross along the way. The shrine is especially visited during Holy Week and the celebration of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s birthday on September 8, when many pilgrims gather for prayer and devotion.
