MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — The provincial capitol grounds turned into a sea of light and sound on July 1, 2026, as thousands gathered for the Gabi ng Pasasalamat. The free concert, a grand thank‑you to the community, closed the 59th Araw ng Davao Oriental with a celebration that invited visitors to witness the province’s vibrant spirit.

A Night of Music and Gratitude

Local band The Dukes fired up the stage first, their set bridging the energy of the crowd before the national artists appeared. Andrew Muhlach then stepped into the spotlight, greeted by deafening cheers, and paused between songs to thank Oriental Dabawenyos for their warmth. His performance mixed heartfelt ballads with crowd‑friendly banter, making every person in the audience feel seen.

Yen Santos followed with a set that leaned into romantic charm and easy interaction, drawing shrieks and phone lights across the field. Her natural presence transformed the vast outdoor venue into an intimate gathering. Then Paul Salas launched into his signature “Paul Swaggy” dance moves, his high‑energy beats pulling fans to their feet and keeping the night alive.

Honoring Resilience and Unity

Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang designed the evening as a personal tribute to the people’s resilience. The celebration carried the official anniversary theme, “Duyog sa Pagbangon, Kusog sa Paglambo”—together in recovery, strength in development—reflecting the province’s steady rise from past adversities. July 1 was declared a special non‑working holiday, allowing every family to join the festivities without worry.

The concert closed a month‑long calendar that blended sports, trade fairs, environmental drives, and cultural showcases. TriDay Or 2026 attracted athletes from across Mindanao, while the ZumBasura coastal cleanup merged fitness with conservation. Each event added a layer to the province’s identity as a place where tradition and progress coexist, offering travellers a rich menu of experiences.

A Celebration that Welcomes Visitors

For tourists, the Gabi ng Pasasalamat showcased more than music—it opened a window into the province’s soul. The event was completely free, hosted in a secure and family‑friendly environment, with medical and security teams ensuring safety throughout the night. Such accessible, authentic celebrations are increasingly rare, making Davao Oriental a standout destination.

The provincial capitol grounds, transformed by lights and sound, sit near Mati’s other attractions, including Dahican Beach and the famous Sleeping Dinosaur landmark. Visitors can pair a cultural immersion with outdoor adventure, turning a weekend trip into a multi‑faceted experience. The success of the anniversary season proves that the province is ready to welcome a broader audience.

Setting the Stage for the Diamond Jubilee

With the 59th anniversary now behind, Davao Oriental turns its eyes toward its diamond jubilee in 2027. The overwhelming turnout at the Gabi ng Pasasalamat and the seamless execution of the month‑long celebrations have built momentum. Local officials credited the collaboration of volunteers, security forces, performers, and government staff for the peaceful and orderly event.

As the final notes of the concert faded, the message lingered: Davao Oriental is a province on the move, proud of its heritage and eager to share it with the world. The Gabi ng Pasasalamat was not just a thank‑you—it was an invitation to return.
