Davao — With over 100 documented waterfalls scattered across its five provinces, the Davao Region has firmly established itself as one of the premier waterfall-chasing destinations in the Philippines. This massive geographical area offers a diverse landscape, ranging from deep jungle basins to soaring mountain gorges, providing an endless playground for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. Whether you are looking for record-breaking cascades or hidden swimming holes, the region serves as a spectacular showcase of the country’s natural hydraulic beauty.
Crown Jewels of the East and South
In Davao Oriental, the landscape is defined by the breathtaking Aliwagwag Falls in Cateel, which is widely considered the crown jewel of the region. This massive natural wonder features a staggering series of over 84 cascading tiers and more than 130 drops that stretch a total of 1,110 feet. Not far away in Baganga, the Curtain Falls, also known as Campawan Falls, offers a contrasting beauty with its wide, curtain-like flow that spills into a massive natural pool. Moving toward Davao City, the Mt. Apo area houses the region's highest waterfall, Tudaya Falls, which plunges over 100 meters into a rugged rocky gorge. Meanwhile, the mountainous Marilog District is celebrated for its intricate network of the "7 Falls" and the "4-in-1" falls trails, while the Tamayong area hosts a cluster of over a dozen falls, including the notable Suotan and Pulang Bato.
Highlands and Island Escapes
The province of Davao de Oro offers a more off-the-grid experience with its stunning highland cascades, such as the Miyaya and Pyalitan Falls found in Maragusan. Additionally, Awao Falls in Compostela provides a serene atmosphere with its multi-tiered jungle drops that feed into a deep, refreshing basin. Shifting to the coastal and island regions, Davao del Norte and the Island Garden City of Samal provide some of the most accessible swimming spots in the area. Hagimit Falls in Samal is particularly famous for its lush, multi-level tiered cascades that flow into natural swimming pools, while Panas Falls in New Corella remains a local favorite due to its icy-cold, crystal-clear water. Each of these provinces contributes to the region’s status as a waterfall-chaser's paradise, offering a unique adventure for every traveler who ventures into these verdant landscapes.
