ILOILO CITY — The city known as the Bike Capital of the Philippines is adding four wheels to its green mobility lineup. MOEV IT ILOILO, the first‑ever Electric Vehicle Car Show organized by the city government, opens on June 24 and runs through June 27 at the Festive Walk Parade in Iloilo Business Park.

A New Chapter in Green Mobility

The event marks a bold expansion of Iloilo’s sustainable transport advocacy. While the city has long championed bicycles, this show puts electric cars, e‑scooters, and charging technology in the spotlight. Free admission invites everyone to explore the future of clean commuting.

Organizers have packed the four‑day event with hands‑on experiences. Visitors can learn about EV technology, compare vehicle specifications and prices side‑by‑side, obtain on‑site quotations, and book test drives. The show floor also features solar technology exhibits and charging infrastructure demonstrations, offering a complete picture of the e‑mobility ecosystem.

Experience EVs Up Close

Major car brands and local distributors are expected to display their latest electric models, from compact city cars to family‑sized SUVs. Attendees can sit behind the wheel, ask questions directly to product specialists, and feel the quiet power of an electric motor. For many Ilonggos and tourists, this will be their first tangible encounter with an EV.

Beyond automobiles, the show includes e‑bikes and e‑scooters, reflecting the city’s inclusive approach to low‑carbon transport. These two‑wheeled electric options bridge the gap between traditional bicycles and full‑sized electric cars, giving commuters more ways to embrace sustainability.

Flow City’s Month‑Long Celebration

MOEV IT ILOILO serves as the capstone event of the 12th Iloilo Bike Festival, which kicked off on June 3 under the theme “FLOW CITY: Iloilo Always on the Move.” The month‑long celebration has already drawn thousands of participants through a 700‑strong Bike‑to‑Work ride, an active mobility conference, a 20‑kilometer Grand Fun Ride, and a toddler Push Bike Race.

By ending the festival with an EV show, the city government sends a clear message: Iloilo’s commitment to sustainable mobility extends from pedals to plug‑ins. Executive Assistant Jay Treñas, the Assistant Festival Director, noted that the transition to electric vehicles is a natural next step for a city that has already earned three Gold Mobility Awards.

Iloilo’s E‑Mobility Track Record

The car show does not emerge from a vacuum. Iloilo City was selected as one of four Philippine pilot cities for the United Nations Development Programme’s Promotion of Low Carbon Urban Transport Systems project, which deployed electric public utility vehicles. The Department of Science and Technology, alongside UP Diliman, helped install fast‑charging stations.

Local power provider MORE Power, in partnership with SM City Iloilo, also launched free electric buses serving major city routes. These existing initiatives create a supportive environment for private EV adoption. The car show invites residents and visitors to become part of this expanding green infrastructure.

A Magnet for Tourists

The timing and location of the event are designed to attract both locals and out‑of‑town visitors. Festive Walk Parade, the pedestrian‑friendly spine of Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park, offers a vibrant setting with restaurants, shops, and entertainment nearby. Tourists already in Iloilo for the tail end of the bike festival can easily add the EV show to their itinerary.

For travelers planning a weekend getaway, the show provides an extra reason to visit the city. The combination of historic landmarks, culinary treasures, and now a cutting‑edge mobility showcase makes Iloilo a multi‑dimensional destination. The future of transportation, it appears, is something you can test‑drive while on vacation.
