BUTUAN CITY — The City Government of Butuan and the Department of Education have signed a Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement for the 2026 Basic Education Facilities Program, ensuring the construction of new classrooms in six public schools across the city. Under the agreement, the City Government will lead the implementation of the project, which includes the construction of new classrooms and the procurement of necessary school furniture. The funds for these projects are provided by the Department of Education and will be used exclusively for the specified construction and furnishing activities.
Addressing Classroom Congestion Through Strategic Infrastructure
The project includes the construction of a four-classroom building, a two-storey classroom building, and four two-classroom buildings, totaling multiple new learning spaces across the six beneficiary schools. This initiative aims to significantly reduce classroom congestion and provide a more conducive learning environment for students. The agreement builds on the national government's directive to accelerate the delivery of basic education facilities and address the classroom backlog, with the Department of Education actively collaborating with local government units to expedite construction.
Clear Roles and Responsibilities for Project Success
The Supplemental MOA outlines the specific responsibilities of both DepEd and the City Government in implementing the project. These include project implementation, fund management, work monitoring, and ensuring proper fund utilization. The City Government of Butuan is tasked with overseeing the construction and procurement processes, while DepEd provides the necessary funding and technical oversight. This partnership ensures that all projects meet national safety, accessibility, and quality standards, ultimately providing safer and more conducive learning spaces for students.
