The Vermosa Green Run, the pioneering advocacy event that rallied the community back to the tracks post-pandemic, is returning for its landmark fifth consecutive staging on June 28 at Vermosa in Imus, Cavite. This year's run introduces more eco-conscious elements, including race shirts and singlets made from recycled PET bottles, encouraging participants to bring used containers for upcycling into eco bricks.
A Run with Purpose: Sustainability at Its Core
Now on its fifth year, the Vermosa Green Run has evolved into one of the country's most recognized sustainability-focused running events, attracting elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts, families, and pet lovers . The run features 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K categories, and a 1K Dog Run, all set against the lush, scenic routes of Vermosa Estates in Imus, Cavite . "We want runners to feel – both literally and symbolically – that choosing to participate means choosing to support responsible resource use," said Kristin Raval-Ofilada, Ayala Land Project Development Manager.
This year, sustainability is embedded directly into the race experience. Race shirts, singlets, and even dog bandanas are manufactured from recycled PET bottles, demonstrating how discarded plastics can be transformed into high-quality products that support active lifestyles . Participants are encouraged to bring used PET water bottles or food containers during registration to avail of race kit discounts. The collected bottles are turned over to the Makati Development Corporation, to be upcycled into eco bricks that help reduce environmental impact and support sustainable construction and community practices.
Building Forests and Supporting Local Athletes
Beyond recycling, the Green Run connects participants directly to long-term environmental conservation. Every group of 10 participants automatically becomes part of the Haribon Foundation's Forests for Life Movement, supporting native tree planting and forest restoration projects in partner communities nationwide . The initiative follows a science-based rainforestation approach focused on planting and nurturing native tree species to restore degraded forests and protect water sources, soil, and climate stability.
The event also remains rooted in community wellness and sports development. Portions of the proceeds and race kits support Takbo Kabitenyo, a program for the growth of local youth athletes, along with Haribon Foundation and Pawssion Project . "As we celebrate our fifth year, we hope to inspire a lasting shift toward mindful consumption and conscious living," said Lani Tan, General Manager of Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub . With responsible hydration systems and waste-reduction measures implemented throughout the event, the Green Run continues to prove that every step can create meaningful change for Cavite and beyond.
