New school buildings inaugurated on June 23 by the Municipal Government in Silang, Cavite, have successfully ended class shifting for local students. The additional classrooms at key local institutions have returned students to normal schedules, allowing younger learners to dismiss by 1:00 PM instead of attending late shifts.
A Long-Awaited Solution to Classroom Shortage
For years, public schools in Silang have struggled with classroom shortages, forcing students to attend classes in shifting schedules that disrupted daily routines and limited learning time. On June 23, the Municipal Government of Silang addressed this challenge through the simultaneous inauguration of new school buildings across the municipality, marking a significant milestone for local education.
BLISS Elementary School, one of the direct beneficiaries of the new infrastructure, serves 525 pupils from Kindergarten through Grade 6 . School head Milano Garzon welcomed the development, stating, "Sa bagong school building, natuldukan na ang shifting classes" . With the additional classrooms, normal dismissal times are now in place: Grades 1 and 2 end at 1:00 PM, Grade 3 at 2:00 PM, and Grades 4 to 6 at 3:00 PM.
A Broader Commitment to Education in Silang
The June 23 inauguration is part of the Municipal Government's ongoing efforts to completely eliminate class shifting and provide every student with access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment . The municipality has been actively expanding its school infrastructure, with recent developments including the groundbreaking for a 4-storey, 8-classroom building at Lumil Elementary School on May 28, 2026 . A tender for another 6-classroom building at Puting Kahoy Elementary School was also posted in June 2026, indicating continued investment .
The initiative aligns with the Department of Education's nationwide push to address classroom shortages. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that "when classrooms are overcrowded, teachers cannot teach effectively," and the government aims to avoid shifting classes as much as possible . Through these infrastructure investments, the Municipal Government of Silang is ensuring that students can focus on learning without the disruption of shifting schedules, creating a brighter future for the next generation of Caviteños.
