The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), through its retail electricity supplier MPower, signed a 10-year deal with ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines. The agreement secures up to 40.5 megawatts of renewable energy to power the STT Cavite 1 and 2 facilities, alongside the STT Fairview campus.
A Game-Changing Partnership for Digital Infrastructure and Cavite's Energy Landscape
The deal between MPower and STT GDC Philippines marks a significant milestone in the country's digital transformation journey . STT GDC Philippines, a joint venture between Globe Telecom, Ayala Corporation, and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, secured the 40.5 MW renewable energy supply for its three data center facilities—STT Fairview in Quezon City and STT Cavite 1 and 2 in Cavite . STT Cavite 2, currently undergoing testing and commissioning, is expected to deliver 6 MW of capacity, complementing STT Cavite 1's more than 4 MW .
STT GDC Philippines President and CEO Carlo Malana highlighted the importance of this partnership: "By securing long-term renewable energy, we are ensuring that the mission-critical platforms our customers depend on every day are powered by sustainable sources, keeping carbon neutrality at the core of our operations" . The company has set a target to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2030 , with the company's data centers already fully transitioned to renewable energy since last year.
A Blueprint for Sustainable Digital Growth
The agreement underscores the rapid expansion of data centers in the Philippines, driven by the growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital banking, and e-commerce platforms . Data centers, which are known for their high energy consumption, are increasingly being powered by renewable sources to improve sustainability . STT Fairview alone is poised to become the largest data center in the country, with a total IT capacity of 124 MW upon full completion—with Phase 1 already operational and being powered by renewable energy .
Meralco Senior Vice President and MPower Head Redel M. Domingo emphasized the significance of the collaboration: "Great partnerships are built on trust, a shared vision, and a commitment to move forward together. Through this agreement, we reaffirm MPower's commitment to delivering reliable, flexible, and competitive energy solutions that empower our partners to grow and succeed" . The deal demonstrates how energy and technology are becoming increasingly intertwined, laying the groundwork for a resilient, future-ready digital ecosystem in the Philippines, with Cavite playing a central role as a key hub for sustainable digital infrastructure .
