Cavite's transformation into a highly connected economic powerhouse is accelerating, thanks to major government infrastructure projects that slash travel times and create new opportunities for residents and businesses alike.
Highways and Railways Cutting Travel Time in Half
The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) continues to expand its reach, with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally inaugurating Subsection 3 in General Trias City on May 4, 2026 . This 7.88-kilometer segment now connects the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to the Governor's Drive Interchange, reducing travel time between Biñan, Laguna, and General Trias City from one hour to approximately 26 minutes . Motorists also enjoy a one-month toll-free period, allowing them to experience the convenience firsthand . Once fully completed, the entire 44.6-kilometer CALAX will link the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Biñan, Laguna, featuring eight key interchanges that will strengthen mobility across South Luzon . The project is expected to accommodate up to 95,000 vehicles daily, serving as a vital economic corridor.
Complementing this road network is the LRT-1 Cavite Extension, a transformative railway project already making commutes faster and more comfortable. Phase 1 of the extension, which opened in November 2024, added 6.2 kilometers and five new stations, ultimately designed to reduce travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor from one hour and ten minutes to just 25 minutes . The system currently serves up to 400,000 passengers daily . The Light Rail Transit Authority is now focused on completing right-of-way acquisition for Packages 2 and 3, which will add the Las Piñas, Zapote, and Niog stations, targeting completion by early 2027.
Bridges and Diversion Roads Reshaping the Landscape
The upcoming Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge is a landmark engineering feat poised to drastically cut travel between Cavite and Central Luzon. Spanning 32.15 kilometers across Manila Bay, the four-lane bridge will connect Naic, Cavite, to Mariveles, Bataan, reducing travel time from the current five hours to just 30 to 45 minutes . Construction is set to begin before the end of 2025, funded through Official Development Assistance loans from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank . Over 20,000 jobs are projected during the construction and post-construction phases, boosting trade, logistics, and tourism for both provinces.
On the local front, the Punta-Open Canal Diversion Road in General Trias City is finally on track for completion by the end of 2027 after a decade-long delay . Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon assured that funding for the remaining 2.35-kilometer portion is secured and that right-of-way funds of roughly P90 million will be downloaded directly to the city government to expedite land acquisition . This innovative approach is set to become the new standard for national infrastructure projects . Once finished, this six-lane thoroughfare will shorten travel time from Arnaldo Highway to Tanza from 40 minutes to just 15 minutes, greatly easing traffic congestion in Cavite's growing industrial and residential corridors.
