TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – With careful consideration in preparing the province for any uncertain times in the global economy, the Bohol provincial government has been taking concrete actions. Governor Erico Aris Aumentado signed Executive Order No. 13, series of 2026, which states the proper expenditure measures that will be followed by all local government units in the province following a conference with the task force on April 8, 2026.
Tourism Remains a Priority
Governor Aumentado emphasized that local festivities shall continue due to their significant contribution to the preservation of culture, increased tourism activities, and the formation of social cohesion. This is stated clearly in the executive order, which mentions the importance of local festivities in providing economic benefits to small entrepreneurs and traders.
Strategic Refinements to Local Events
However, the annual basketball tournament known as the Governor’s Cup, which was created in 2023 and rewarded its victors with millions worth of developmental initiatives, has been canceled. The festival of Sandugo sa Bohol will still take place; however, on a more modest scale to reduce costs.
Support for Local Livelihoods
The EO encourages LGUs to undertake various efforts to boost the creation of income through the local economy. It involves conducting local trade fairs, markets, and displays of products. In addition, it entails fostering the growth of local businesses through community-based efforts aimed at uplifting local producers and artisans. The directive highlights the need for maximization of local resources and capabilities, with emphasis on proper allocation of budget to critical sectors, such as health, education, food security, environment, and disaster management.
Sustainable Tourism Framework
These policies follow the principles laid out by the newly adopted Bohol Sustainable Tourism Code, which provides an extensive policy framework that can be relied upon in order to ensure sustainable development by giving precedence to the preservation of all the natural and cultural heritages of Bohol province.
As one who has the UNESCO Global Geopark status and having received a record-breaking number of tourists at 1,427,362 during 2025, representing an increase of 4.18% from last year, Bohol remains robust and resilient amid unfavorable winds that blow across the international market.
