PANGLAO, BOHOL — Bohol-Panglao International Airport has proven its readiness for any emergency, reinforcing its role as a secure gateway for tourists. On April 24, 2026, the airport conducted BEACON2026, a full-scale simulation exercise testing its response to a mock aircraft emergency. The drill, required under international aviation standards, ensures the airport can protect the traveling public in a crisis.
The exercise simulated a narrow-body commercial aircraft experiencing a runway excursion upon landing. BPIA General Manager Aldwin C. Uy explained the exercise's importance. “Resilience and safety are at the core of Bohol-Panglao International Airport's readiness. We continuously strengthen our systems to ensure our teams can respond swiftly and effectively,” he said. The drill involved the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine National Police, the Office of Civil Defense, and local hospitals.
Seamless Coordination, Uninterrupted Operations
Regular flight operations continued without disruption as the realistic scenario unfolded. Designated staging and treatment areas were carefully located to ensure passenger movement remained smooth. This careful planning minimized impact on travelers while allowing responders to practice their roles fully.
The response involved airline partners, the provincial and municipal governments, and the Philippine Coast Guard. CAAP BPIA Manager Anghelo B. Ibañez stated, “This level of coordination ensures the airport remains compliant with global aviation standards while fostering a culture of preparedness and operational excellence.” The exercise’s fiesta theme also celebrated local culture alongside the serious safety protocols.
A Commitment That Spans the Network
BEACON2026 was not an isolated event. It followed similar initiatives across Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, including a recent exercise at Laguindingan International Airport. This reflects a unified standard of safety, resilience, and operational excellence across all the company’s regional gateways.
For travelers arriving in Bohol, the commitment to safety behind the scenes translates directly into peace of mind. The exercise demonstrates that while emergencies are unpredictable, the teams protecting visitors are ready. This reinforces BPIA's reputation as a world-class and secure entry point to the island's famous beaches, Chocolate Hills, and dive sites. By prioritizing safety, the airport actively strengthens Bohol's tourism appeal, ensuring the journey is as secure as the destination itself.
