MAKATI CITY — As part of its 356th founding anniversary celebration, the Makati City Government will hold the 11th Makati Bike for M.E. (Mother Earth) on June 6, 2026, at the Makati City Hall Quadrangle. Organized by the Department of Environmental Services – Parks and Green Division (District 1), the cycling event begins at 5:00 a.m. and aims to promote environmental awareness, healthy living, and sustainable transportation.
More Than Just a Bike Ride
The annual Bike for M.E. event serves as a reminder that simple, sustainable choices, such as riding a bicycle instead of driving a car, can contribute to a cleaner and healthier urban environment. It also provides an opportunity for families, friends, and cycling enthusiasts to come together in support of environmental responsibility. Through activities like this, Makati continues to reinforce its vision of becoming a livable, progressive, and environmentally conscious city.
A Community Ride with a Purpose
A long-standing highlight of Makati’s anniversary festivities, Bike for M.E. continues to attract cyclists of all ages, from seasoned riders to families looking for an active morning outdoors. The event transforms city streets into a venue for fitness, recreation, and environmental advocacy, encouraging residents to consider cycling as a practical mode of everyday transportation. Scheduled in the early morning, participants will have the chance to enjoy the cool weather and quieter streets before the city’s usual bustle begins. The activity also highlights how individual actions can collectively help reduce carbon emissions and promote greener communities.
Strengthening Makati’s Green Initiatives
City officials said the annual ride is part of Makati’s ongoing efforts to encourage eco-friendly practices and increase public participation in environmental programs. Over the years, the city has steadily developed a reputation as one of Metro Manila’s most bike-friendly communities, supported by dedicated bike lanes, sharrow markings, and interconnected green routes. The Bike for M.E. event showcases these improvements while promoting active mobility as a solution to common urban challenges such as traffic congestion and air pollution.
How Residents Can Join
Interested participants may contact the organizers through the city’s designated hotline for registration details and event information. The ride is open to everyone, including experienced cyclists, casual riders, and children with mini-bikes. Hundreds of participants have joined previous editions of the event. With growing awareness of climate and sustainability issues, organizers expect the 11th Bike for M.E. to attract an even larger crowd. The gathering at the Makati City Hall Quadrangle is expected to be a festive morning filled with camaraderie, exercise, and collective action for Mother Earth.
