ILOILO CITY — A traveler's safety has just been significantly strengthened across Iloilo. The Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Bureau of Fire Protection launched four Unified 911 Satellite Command Centers, headquartered at the Leganes Fire Station. This marks a major step in modernizing emergency response and ensuring that help is available for anyone in need with a single, free phone call.

The new facilities provide a centralized, toll‑free, 24/7 emergency hotline connecting callers to police, fire, medical, and rescue services. The system was launched by Philippine National Police Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. and BFP Director Fire Chief Superintendent Wilberto Niel Ang Kwan Tiu, alongside local Iloilo officials. The unified command centers are a significant upgrade in public safety infrastructure.

A Multilingual Lifeline for Every Visitor

A key feature of the upgraded emergency system is its unique ability to serve everyone, including international and local tourists. The system can accommodate callers using local languages and dialects, including Hiligaynon and Kinaray‑a. This initiative eliminates communication barriers and enables faster, more accurate emergency reporting for all.

PNP Chief Nartatez emphasized that the expansion supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to strengthen crisis management systems nationwide. "While we aim for faster response times, what is most important is that help arrives when it is needed," Nartatez said. To improve operations, the PNP continues to deploy motorcycles, patrol vehicles, body‑worn cameras, and modern communication radios, all designed to enhance coordination among responders.

A Foundation of Safety for a Premier Destination

For Iloilo City, already an award‑winning destination for its disaster preparedness, this initiative adds a critical layer of trust for the tourism sector. The city government, led by Mayor Raisa Treñas, is also working with telecom providers to strengthen network reliability, ensuring 911 calls connect seamlessly. Reliable infrastructure and swift emergency response are invisible but essential comforts for every traveler.

BFP Director Kwan Tiu highlighted the urgency of such services, noting that emergency responders ideally need to arrive within three to five minutes during critical incidents. The public was also reminded to dial 911 immediately during emergencies. This powerful combination of advanced technology, multilingual support, and rapid response capability ensures Iloilo remains a safe, welcoming, and world‑class destination.
