Permit Power
Permit Power

The "Ease of Doing Business" in General Santos City has hit a record high this April 2026, thanks to a radical digital overhaul of its licensing procedures. On April 18, 2026, city officials highlighted the success of the electronic Business One-Stop Shop (e-BOSS), which has digitized thousands of transactions for local entrepreneurs. By eliminating traditional bureaucratic hurdles, the city government is creating a frictionless environment for the next generation of restaurant owners and hospitality investors who are driving the city’s culinary revival.

Digital Convenience for Modern Entrepreneurs

The e-BOSS system is the centerpiece of the city's business permit reforms, allowing entrepreneurs to complete their applications and renewals online from their homes or offices. Acting Division Chief Rowi Arbilon Malayag explained that the policy is designed to give business owners the convenience they deserve while eliminating potential biases and patronage. Payments can now be made through digital platforms like GCash and PayMaya, with the final business permit sent directly to the applicant's email for printing. This administrative efficiency is particularly beneficial for small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the gastronomy sector that need to focus on operations rather than paperwork.

Optimism for a Record Investment Year

The city government is optimistic about a surge in registered businesses and new investments following the issuance of over 13,700 permits in 2025. This digital transformation aligns with national policies aimed at minimizing bureaucratic hurdles and enhancing system security. For the restaurant and retail sectors, this means a faster route to market and reduced operational friction in one of Mindanao’s most competitive hubs. The high turnout of business owners on the platform this month signals a strong market interest in GenSan’s evolving commercial landscape.

Training for a Greener Industrialization

Beyond permit processing, the city is also investing in the technical capabilities of its workforce through "Green Productivity" training for MSMEs. On April 17, 2026, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-XII) concluded a convergence training focused on creating safer and greener workplaces in GenSan. This initiative encourages businesses to adopt practical measures to reduce waste and improve efficiency, aligning with the city's "Green City" vision. These combined efforts—digital ease and technical empowerment—ensure that GenSan remains a top destination for savvy investors throughout the 2026 calendar.
