SURIGAO CITY — The Provincial Convention Center in Surigao City became a lively gathering place for pet lovers last March 2026, as the Rabies Awareness Month kick‑off filled the morning with wagging tails, playful barks, and a shared commitment to responsible pet ownership. Fur parents arrived with their dogs and cats, turning what could have been a routine health campaign into a community celebration.
The Cutest Parade Around the Capitol
Early in the morning, fur parents together with their dogs and cats gathered for the Dog Walk and Parade around the Capitol Flag Circle. The event was a fun and meaningful way to show support for the campaign against rabies. Mascot meet‑and‑greets, photobooth moments, and free event T‑shirts for the first 200 early attendees added to the excitement.
Honoring the Working Dogs
One of the highlights of the event was the K9 Service Recognition and Capability Showcase from ASERT, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, where K9 dogs demonstrated their skills in serving and protecting the public. Distinguished Service Awards were presented to military K9 dogs in recognition of their vital role in public safety and security.
A Dog Parade With Personality
Adding more excitement to the celebration was the Dog Parade Contest, featuring fun categories such as Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Shiniest Dog, Head‑Turner Dog, Snappiest Dog, and the lively Lumba‑Kaon Dogfood Challenge.
Free Services for Every Fur Baby
Throughout the event, free onsite services were also made available, including free rabies vaccination for dogs and cats, pet health consultations, castration services, sponsor giveaways, and Pet QR Code Tags provided by JCI Surigao Nickel. The event strongly conveyed the campaign's message: responsible pet ownership and rabies prevention are everyone's responsibility.
