Bohol — The Our Lady of Light Church, also known as Nuestra Señora de la Luz, stands as a monumental testament to faith and resilience in Loon, Bohol. Recognized as the largest church building in the province, this architectural marvel covers an impressive floor area of 2,245.28 square meters. Due to its immense cultural and historical significance, it has been officially declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines and a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. The church remains a primary destination for pilgrims and history enthusiasts alike, staying open 24 hours daily to serve the community.

A Legacy Restored After the 2013 Earthquake

The history of this site is marked by both tragedy and triumph, having faced the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the region on October 15, 2013. The original 19th-century coral stone structure was completely destroyed during this powerful event, leaving the community without its spiritual home. However, a meticulously detailed, multi-year reconstruction project was launched to honor the structure's past. This extensive effort was officially completed on September 7, 2021, successfully restoring the church to its original grandeur for future generations to cherish.

Visiting the Largest Church in Bohol

Visitors frequently highlight the church's solemn atmosphere, which is enhanced by excellent acoustics and a high-quality sound system that makes every mass a deeply moving experience. The venue is also designed with accessibility in mind, featuring an accessible entrance and dedicated parking to accommodate all guests. On-site amenities include clean public restrooms, ensuring a comfortable visit for those traveling long distances to see the landmark.
