BOHOL — The Provincial Government of Bohol is rolling out a digital tourism management system, refining local ordinances, and activating a bold 2026 marketing plan to attract more visitors while improving the experience for tourists and stakeholders alike.

A Digital Leap for Tourist Convenience

Bohol is launching the Smart Bohol Tourism System (SBTS) in April 2026, a unified digital platform that will serve as a one-stop hub for tourists. Through a mobile app and web portal, visitors can book accredited tours, purchase environmental fees, and access real-time travel information.

The system will also streamline registration for tourism enterprises and guide visitors toward lesser-known destinations, helping decongest popular spots like Alona Beach. Governor Aris Aumentado stressed that digitization is key to modernizing Bohol’s tourism ecosystem.

Local government units and tourism officers will receive training to onboard their communities onto the platform. This integrated approach is expected to cut red tape, boost compliance, and give both tourists and businesses a seamless, transparent experience.

Strengthening Policies for Sustainable Growth

Alongside the digital rollout, the province is updating its Tourism Code through new ordinances aimed at sustainability. These revisions will standardize fees, tighten accreditation rules, and impose stricter guidelines on environmental protection in eco-tourism sites.

A unified environmental user fee system will replace fragmented collection methods. This ensures that revenues go directly into conservation programs and infrastructure, reinforcing Bohol’s status as the country’s first UNESCO Global Geopark.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan members have expressed support for the policy updates, noting that clear regulations give investors more confidence. The province also aims to align its rules with national sustainable tourism standards.

Ambitious Marketing Priorities for 2026

Bohol’s 2026 marketing plan focuses on strengthening its foothold in key international markets such as South Korea, Japan, and Europe, while sustaining the strong domestic arrivals. Signature events like the Sandugo Festival and the Panglao International Dragon Boat race will take center stage.

Tourism officer Josephine Cabarrus highlighted that storytelling will drive campaigns, spotlighting Bohol’s heritage churches, pristine dive sites, and community-based tourism villages. Digital ads and influencer partnerships will supplement traditional travel fairs.

The province is also pitching itself as an ideal MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. With new hotel developments and upgraded airport capacity, Bohol is positioning itself to capture higher-spending business travelers throughout the year.
