BOHOL — The Department of Information and Communications Technology is making Bohol a priority for its digital expansion, a move that promises to enhance the experience of every traveler visiting the island. DICT‑7 Regional Director Frederick Amores announced the push on June 1, 2026, during the opening of National ICT Month. The agency has already completed 327 free Wi‑Fi sites across Central Visayas.
"We are still growing here in the region. And we are still expecting more growth in the greenfield areas like Bohol," Amores said. His statement signals that Bohol is not merely included in the regional rollout but is being targeted for significant expansion. For tourists, this means seamless connectivity in the places they visit most.
A Digital Boost for the Island's Visitor Economy
The free Wi‑Fi sites span public schools, hospitals, barangay halls, national government offices, libraries, capitols, public markets, and plazas. A traveler can now research a destination while at a public market, post photos from a plaza, or handle a work emergency from a local government hall. This removes a persistent friction point for modern tourism.
The initiative is part of the Free Wi‑Fi for All program, designed to bridge the digital divide and bring internet access to underserved communities. Beyond connectivity, the DICT is expanding digital literacy through Digital Transformation Centers in Cebu and Bohol. These centers offer training in basic digital skills, cybersecurity, coding, and e‑commerce for students, professionals, and small businesses.
Connecting Communities, Empowering Travel
The Government Network, or GovNet, now connects 107 government agencies across Central Visayas, enabling faster and more efficient inter‑agency communication and service delivery. The eGov PH Super App, a single digital portal for government services, has already served over 20,000 clients in Cebu alone since its soft launch in December 2025.
For Bohol, a premier eco‑tourism destination famous for the Chocolate Hills, tarsier sanctuaries, and pristine dive sites, this digital infrastructure strengthens its position. Reliable internet access supports the island's growing reputation as a destination for digital nomads and remote workers. It ensures that whether a visitor is exploring an ancient church or relaxing on a Panglao beach, they remain connected, safe, and able to share their experiences.
