PANGLAO, BOHOL — The Bellevue Resort has made history as the province's first Halal‑certified and DOT Muslim‑Friendly accommodation, opening Bohol's doors to a rapidly growing global market. The dual recognition, awarded by the Halal International Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Philippines and the Department of Tourism, positions the resort at the forefront of inclusive hospitality in Central Visayas. The milestone marks a significant step toward making Bohol a welcoming destination for Muslim travelers.
The resort earned its Halal certification through rigorous evaluation by HICCIP, covering food sourcing, handling, preparation, and storage. Dedicated halal kitchens and preparation areas were established at Marea Restaurant, with strict segregation protocols to prevent cross‑contamination. Managing Director Dustin Chan emphasized the thoroughness of the process. "It covers the entire process, from delivery to back‑of‑house operations. There's a lot of detail and discipline involved," he said.
Beyond Dining: A Complete Muslim‑Friendly Experience
The DOT's recognition under Memorandum Circular No. 2024‑0003 reflects the resort's compliance with national standards for Muslim‑Friendly Accommodation Establishments. Thoughtful enhancements were made across multiple guest touchpoints. Designated prayer rooms were integrated into the facilities, Qibla direction indicators were placed in all guest rooms, and Muslim‑friendly information was made readily available.
Beyond infrastructure, the resort invested heavily in cultural sensitivity. Staff underwent specialized training to deepen their understanding of Muslim customs and service expectations. Resort Manager Noli Soldevilla described the effort as a collective undertaking rooted in the resort's culture of inclusivity. "It required intentional planning, continuous learning, and a genuine commitment to inclusivity," he said. Halal‑certified dining is now available at Marea Al Fresco, the resort's open‑air beachfront restaurant.
A Growing Market, A Welcoming Destination
Muslim travel is among the fastest‑expanding segments in global tourism, and the Philippines is actively positioning itself to capture this demand. The Bellevue Resort's achievement supports the DOT's vision of establishing the country as a Halal‑friendly destination. Chan expressed hope that more establishments will follow the resort's lead.
For Bohol, already celebrated for its Chocolate Hills, pristine beaches, and eco‑tourism, this new credential broadens its appeal to a more diverse international audience. It signals that the province is ready to welcome travelers of all backgrounds with genuine warmth and cultural respect. The resort hopes this milestone will inspire others across the region to adopt inclusive practices, elevating Bohol and the Philippines as a whole.
