A New Opportunity for Street Vendors
Bacolod City has granted legal operating status to food vendors along North Capitol Road, allowing them to continue earning a livelihood without concerns about apprehension. Beginning May 25, a total of 42 vendors received special permits from the city government, enabling them to sell food products in a designated area. For many long-time vendors, the move provides security and recognition for businesses they have operated for years while serving residents and visitors in the city.
Balancing Business and Public Convenience
City officials emphasized that the initiative focuses on regulation rather than relocation. Under City Ordinance 1009, vendors are allowed to continue operating while following specific guidelines designed to protect both business owners and the public. The city government believes that legal registration will make it easier to provide future assistance programs and support services to vendors while ensuring that street vending activities remain organized and properly monitored.
Guidelines Promote Order and Cleanliness
To prevent traffic congestion and maintain public safety, vendors are permitted to operate only from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day. The regulations also require a grab-and-go setup using carts only, with tables, chairs, and permanent structures prohibited. In addition, the city government plans to conduct regular cleaning operations and address parking concerns in the area. Officials see the program as a practical solution that supports local entrepreneurs while preserving smooth traffic flow and a clean environment for the community.
